		Gallo Arts Center Modesto, CA Winner of an invited competition for a state-of-the-art 84,000 sq. ft. Performing Arts Center in downtown Modesto with a 1,200 seat Mainstage Theatre and a 400 seat Secondstage Theatre. The center will accommodate symphony, dance, musicals, ballet and drama for touring shows and for resident civic and University companies. The facility also has an art gallery. Construction is scheduled to begin in the fall of 2002. Winner of the 2001 & 2009 "Citation Award" AIA/SFV.
		Orpheum Theatre Los Angeles, CA Architect for the restoration and renovation of the 2000-seat Los Angeles Orpheum Theatre to provide a venue for performance and assembly. Work included upgrading the theatrical, mechanical, and electrical systems, audience chamber seating, dressing rooms, public restrooms, concession areas and box office.
		Las Positas College Center for the Arts Livermore, CA Architect, theatre consultant, and acoustician for a 55,000 sq. ft. performing arts center which contains a 500 seat proscenium theatre, a 150 seat black box theatre and a 2,000 seat amphitheatre. The center also contains all support spaces, rehearsal halls, and classrooms for the Theatre Arts, Music and Speech programs. This is a LEED Silver Certificate design. Completed in 2010. Winner of American School & University Architectural Portfolio Award, 2011.
		Purnell Center for the Arts Pittsburgh, PA Joint venture Architect in charge of performance spaces and spatial organization for this state-of-the-art building housing the Carnegie Mellon University School of Drama with a museum/gallery for the School of Art. Venues include a 500-seat theatre for plays, musicals and operas, a 130-seat flexible black box theatre and a video studio. The main stage is transformable to various stage and seating modes and has variable acoustics. Winners of 2000 "Design Award of Honor" Society of American Registered Architects, and the 1998 & 1999 "Citation Award" AIA/SFV.
		La Jolla Playhouse La Jolla, CA Joint venture architect & Theatre Consultant for this 44,000 s.f. facility, the Joan and Irwin Jacobs Center for La Jolla Playhouse. The Play Development and Education Center for the La Jolla Playhouse and UCSD Department of Theatre and Dance consists of the 450-seat black box Potiker Theatre, three classroom/ rehearsal spaces, outdoor public areas, restaurant, technical and storage support spaces and a permanent artistic and administrative home for the Playhouse. Architect: Fisher Sehgal Yanez/RoTo Architects -a joint venture. Winner of 2001 "Citation Award" AIA/SFV.
		Agoura High School Performing Arts Center Agoura Hills, CA Architect, theatre consultant & acoustician for a 650 seat theatre, a 100 seat black box theatre and support spaces. The curving roof slopes are for acoustical displacement and are covered with photovoltaic cells for this LEED Platinum Certification project. Winners of 2010 "Design Award" AIA/SFV, and the Los Angeles Business Council’s Award of Excellence, 2011.
		Calabasas High School Performing Arts Center Calabasas, CA Architect, theatre consultant & acoustician for a 650 seat theatre, a 100 seat black box theatre and support spaces. The curving roof slopes are for acoustical displacement and are covered with photovoltaic cells for this LEED Silver Certification project. Winners of the Los Angeles Business Council’s Award of Excellence, 2011.
		Newseum Theatre Washington, D. C. Theatre consultants for the design of a 535-seat hall for both Houses of Congress which is convertible to a 220 seat 3-D cinema. It also contains a large television studio with telescoping seats for audience viewing.
		College of Fine Arts Renovation for the School of Music Pittsburgh, PA Associated Architect for the Phase I renovation of Carnegie Mellon University's College of Fine Arts, School of Music, which was originally built in 1910. The renovation was completed in 2002 and included the creation of new rehearsal studios, a recording studio, a music technology center, a midi studio, classrooms, an orchestra rehearsal room and a 299-seat recital hall with support spaces.
		Sitka High School Performance Center and Auditorium Sitka, AK Joint venture architect (responsible for the theatre), theatre consultant and acoustician, using a small budget of $13.3 million to create a new 25,000 sq ft performance arts auditorium: including a 700-seat performing arts center with orchestra pit and fly loft to serve the high school, community college and community at large. Completed in March of 2008. This acclaimed auditorium for an Alaska island community of 8,000 people was built quite economically despite having no local labor force and having labor and materials barged in from the lower 48 states. Winner of 2008 "Citation Award" AIA/SFV
		Lincoln High School San Diego, CA Associated theatre architect, theatre consultant and acoustician for the programming and design of a 750-seat theatre and a 100-seat black box theatre for the San Diego School District. In addition to support facilities, the performing arts building includes a black box theatre, band room, a choral room and a dance studio.
		San Jacinto High School Community Library & Multi-Purpose Facility San Jacinto, CA Theatre Architect, Theatre Consultant and acoustician for a library and flexible 250-seat black box for music, drama and dance theatre with support spaces for the San Jacinto High School community. Variable seating configurations are possible with a removable platform and a semi-fixed seating system. Catwalks provide flexible lighting positions and act as early reflection acoustical panels.
		San Juan High School San Juan Capistrano, CA Consulting theatre architect, theatre consultant and acoustician for the design of a 600-seat theatre and a black box theatre, and choral, band and dance rooms. Under construction to be completed in the fall of 2006.
		Shady Side Academy Pittsburgh, PA Associated with The Design Alliance Architects as Theatre Architect, Theatre Consultant and facilitator for the design of the master plan for the expansion of the academy and separately, for the design of a 37,000 square foot high school performing arts center for a private boarding school. The center includes a 650-seat theatre, 150-seat black box theatre, band room, choral room, video studio and theatre support spaces. The performing arts center is currently under construction.
		Los Angeles Theatre Center Los Angeles, CA Architect for this 80,000 s.f. facility for the Los Angeles Community Redevelopment Agency, which consists of 55,000 s.f. of new construction for three theatres and the renovation of an old bank building for the lobby/gallery, a 99-seat flexible black box theatre, administrative functions and some support spaces. The theatres are 500-, 300- and 325-seats in capacity and vary from a soft thrust with balcony, to a soft proscenium with flies to a strong thrust. Winners of 1986 "Grand Award" SFV Section; LA Chapter AIA Design Awards; and 1986 Los Angeles Conservancy Design Award .
		The Georgia Aquarium 4D Theatre Atlanta, GA Architects for the design of a 250-seat 4D theatre for the Goddard Group for the Georgia Aquarium, building construction was completed in 2006.
		Boston Court Theatre Pasadena, CA Architect and Theatre Consultant for a new facility which will house two performance spaces, a 99-seat theatre and a rehearsal room that can be turned into a recital hall using a system that quickly converts the floor from flat to tiered seating. Winner of 2003 "Merit Award" AIA/SFV.
		Old Town Temecula Theatre Temecula, CA Theatre Consultant for a new 300-seat proscenium theatre in Old Town Temecula, serving Mt. San Jacinto Community College and the local community. This project includes the renovation of an historic mercantile building, which will serve as the lobby. The complex also includes an outdoor courtyard, a dance studio, rehearsal space, classrooms, scenery fabrication shop and support facilities. Architect: Fisher Sehgal Yanez
		Madrid Theatre Canoga Park, CA Architect for this 11,000 s.f. building for the Los Angeles Community Redevelopment Agency. Constructed on a 50 x 140 ft. site, the Madrid Theatre may be the world's largest performing arts center on the smallest site. It houses 500 for symphony, dance and musical performances and can be sized down to 250 for more intimate dramatic plays. Moving pocketed drapes allow for variable acoustics. The side walls are scalloped with corrugated metal panels to prevent parallex. Light bridges, catwalks and a unistrut grid allow for full stage lighting flexibility and for spot flying of sets. The stage is configured as an orchestra shell that can also receive sets. The catenary curve in the roof/ceiling optimizes sound disbursement. Winners of 2000 "Citation Award" & "Design Award of Honor" AIA/SFV; 1999 "Southern California Development Award";and 1998 "Community Enrichment Award" from Valley Development Forum.
		Fox Oakland Marquee Oakland, CA The Fox Oakland Theater is one of the San Francisco Bay Area’s best surviving examples of a 20th century movie palace. This Oakland Community & Economic Development Agency project entailed the renovation of the Fox’s two marquees. The project is part of a larger scope of work intended to lead to the building’s reoccupation.
		Nate Holden Performing Arts Center Los Angeles, CA Architect and Theatre Consultant for the design of the Nate Holden Performing Arts Center complex, which consists of a 400-seat, strong-thrust theatre with fly loft and support facilities, a video sound stage/future black box theatre, a restaurant/jazz club, an art gallery and four live/work loft studios. This project for the Los Angeles Redevelopment Agency will replace the existing, historic theatre complex and restaurant.
		Roseville Theatre Roseville, CA Architect for the phased renovation of the Roseville Theatre, a 1920s Vaudeville house seating 650 patrons. Phase one involved renovating the audience chamber, included a new accessible entry, wheelchair seating, and refurbishing the existing seats. Phase two involved providing lobby improvements, new restrooms, office space and a facade face lift.
		Charleston Civic Auditorium Charleston, WV Rehabilitation and addition to a 3,500-seat civic auditorium originally constructed in 1936. Rehabilitation includes transformation of the auditorium into a state-of-the-art performing arts center.
		David Marr Auditorium Redding, CA Originally built in 1927 as a high school theatre, David Marr Auditorium is now rented out as a community theatre in addition to serving the needs of the local high school district. Renovation of this 1,100-seat theatre will include cosmetic improvements such as repainting, seat refurbishment and new carpet, as well as infrastructure improvements such as a front-of-house lighting position integrated into the original plaster ceiling.
		Tower Theatre Roseville, CA This historic 1940 Art Deco movie house, closed since the late 80s, has been renovated and the interior converted into a 300-seat theatre-in-the-round for live performances produced by the Magic Circle Repertory Theatre Company. The renovation included the lobby, ADA improvements including the addition of a new accessible restroom, and new performance area, control rooms and backstage support spaces.
		Colonial Playhouse Theatre Architect and acoustician for a 275-seat proscenium theatre constructed with a fly loft for drama program plays and musicals. A light bridge over the audience handles the front of house positions. The structure and HVAC ducts are left exposed in order to provide sufficient volume for the reverberation time required for musicals. Moving draperies at the rear of the light bridge dampen the space for plays.
		California Latino Museum & Education Center of Arts & Culture Los Angeles, CA This new 90,000 squre foot cultural facility is connected by a sidewalk bridge to an existing adjacent parking structure and then a theatre complex both of which will be renovated. The museum contains a 250-seat large format 3D movie theatre.
		Los Angeles Music and Art School Los Angeles, CA Architect, theatre consultant and acoustician for a 12,000 sq. ft. addition to an existing 11,000 sq. ft. facility to be renovated for teaching music, dance, drama and art for K-8 students. The new addition will contain a 200 seat multi-purpose studio theatre, with telescoping seats and platforms, a dance studio, practice rooms, art studio and administrative offices. The school was founded 60 years ago. This will be a LEED Silver project.
		Aliens 3D Theatre Architect and Theatre Consultant for this Landmark Entertainment Group production of a six camera, three screen 3D movie, in conjunction with live actors. Housed in a 500-seat themed theater with continental seating, clad in stainless steel and copper, and exposed structural, mechanical and electrical elements both inside and outside to relate to the theme. At the climactic conclusion of the 12 minute show, the seating drops 5 millimeters on hydraulic jacks. Winner of 1998 "Citation Award" AIA/SFV.
		Danish Royal Theatre Copenhagen, Denmark Joint venture Architect with Jones, Partners: Architecture for this competition entry for the new 200,000 sq.ft. Royal Theatre Copenhagen complex consisting of a 700 seat theatre, a 250 seat experimental theatre and a 100 seat black box theatre/rehearsal room with ample support facilities.
		Complexe Culturel et Administratif de Montréal Montreal, Canada Architect for this competition entry for the new Cultural and Administrative Complex in Montreal. The program included three buildings, Bâtiment Administratif et les Commerces, Conservatoire, Maison de l’Orchestre Symphonique de Montréal. The placement of the buildings drew in the city and allowed for lively streetscapes, which were reinforced by a perimeter of retail spaces, pedestrian amenities and public lobbies.
		Barstow College Performance Facility Barstow, CA Associated Architect, theatre consultant, and acoustician for a 40,000 sq. ft performing arts center which contains a 750 seat proscenium theatre, and a 150 black box theatre. This is a LEED project.
		Bremen Space Center Bremen, Germany International architects for Space Center Bremen for Landmark Entertainment Group and Space Park Development Corporation Bremen, Germany. The project consists of a variety of assembly spaces including a 450-seat 4D and live action theatre, a 6-plex cinema, a multi-screen 3D ride, space lab, multi-media show, a virtual reality space station coaster ride, a simulation theatre, a small projection theatre, interactive waiting areas and interactive educational rides, a 500-seat restaurant and large retail shop.
		Chengdu Floraland Amphitheatre Chengdu, PRC Foreign architect for 2,500-seat amphitheatre, under construction.
		Commerce Entertainment Center Commerce, CA Architect for a 100,000 sq. ft. theatre that is convertible from a 4,000 seat performing center for touring broadway shows to a 4,400 seat boxing arena by pulling out 600 built-in seats on risers that telescope.
		Fairmont State University Performing Arts Center Fairmont, WV Joint venture architect, theatre consultant, and acoustician for this performing arts center with a 00-seat theatre and a 10-seat black box theatre with shop and other full support spaces integrated with an engineering technology lab building addition to the existing adjacent arts building. This will receive a LEED Silver Certification.
		Point Park University Dance Studio Point Park, PA Associated architect, theatre consultant and acoustician for this competition winning design of a 5 studio dance complex that has 1 studio doubling as a performance space with 150-seat telescoping seating, as shown below. This project earned a LEED Silver Certificate.
		Great Egyptian Museum Giza, Egypt Architect and Exhibit Designer for a 1,000,000 sq. ft. museum competition. A spiral spine representing the flow of life and dynasties brings the visitor through 11 galleries and 5 millennia in multimedia/interactive exhibits. Photovoltaic cells in the spine capture the sun's energy and the gold leaf exterior will endure as long as the pyramids have. The above theatre design was a competition finalist.
		Ingomar Theatre Eureka, CA Architects for the redevelopment of a second story flag lot theatre built in 1892 for the production of the play "Ingomar". Located in a redevelopment area, the 1892 theatre has been 80% gutted and destroyed; this design re-created the space as a 630-seat performing arts center meeting today's technical and code standards including an expanded fly loft. New stairs were added at the rear to meet egress requirements and provide seismic buttressing. The building's Victorian exterior is restored with a dramatic emphasis at the theatre's entrance.
